I think it’s safe to say that most people (if not everyone) have a smartphone these days. We use them for work, play, staying in touch with friends and family, and managing our day to day activities. With the constant technological innovations, almost everything is made possible with the use of a single, handy smart phone. So why not use your smartphone to increase your wellness in all dimensions?

Life can be demanding and force you and the participants you represent to be “on-the-go” all the time. Everyone should take advantage of the invaluable resource that is available at their fingertips, no matter where they may be. There is an overwhelming amount of cell phone features and apps that can help you manage your wellness, so I thought it would be appropriate to provide you with some of my favorite wellness, fitness, nutrition-focused apps in this blog. Below are just a few of my favorites and I will continue to update you on more in future posts:

  • Drive saf.ly – We all know that it is not safe to text or email on our smartphones while driving. While some people may be fortunate enough to have Bluetooth technology in their car, others find themselves struggling with the fact that they cannot and should not use their phone while driving. DriveSafe.ly is a mobile application that reads text (SMS) messages and emails aloud in real time and automatically responds without drivers touching the mobile phone. DriveSafe.ly is the solution to texting while driving. For a quick demo of the app, check out this video.
  • Fooducate – This app uses the tag line “healthify your supermarket choices”. When you are in a supermarket, you are faced with many decisions and it may be hard to select the healthiest option. Using this app, you can go to a grocery store, scan the bar code of a food and know if it’s a healthful choice. If not, it suggests an alternative option that would be healthier for you. Fooducate’s scientific algorithms grade each product and provide simple, concise explanations. The grading system was developed by scientists, dieticians, and concerned parents.
  • Gratitude Journal – Life can be demanding, hectic, and crazy. It’s not until you “stop to smell the roses” that you realize how wonderful your life is. If you want to live every single day of your life with joy, you should make gratitude a part of your daily rituals.  This app encourages you to write down five things you’re grateful for each day and promises that your “life will change forever”. Scientific studies show that people that keep a gratitude journal each day are more optimistic, happier, report fewer physical problems, and are more likely to take care of themselves in a better manner. Try it (even for a short period of time) and you will see the benefits. Your life may not change drastically, but your outlook on life will and that will affect everyone around you.
